The Veil Weapons & Equipment

Weapons are the real build system — abilities, rarity, and the Mastery Oath gate behind legendary gear.

Weapons in The Veil carry three kinds of abilities: Passive (always-on), Active (cooldown skills), and Cast (magic — its own axis, a weapon either has spells or it does not). The rule of thumb the community verified on release: a Rare weapon usually carries one active; Elite adds more actives plus passives; Legendary carries signature skills. Judge a weapon by its abilities, not its color — at least one early quest reward proves rarity colors can undersell a weapon.

The rarity ladder

  • Legendary and Mythic are real, official rarities — the game's own achievements are called “First Legendary!” and “First Mythic!”, and only a few dozen players had a Mythic item in the first two days (The Convergence is the community's known Mythic).
  • Players color-code gear in trading as blue (Rare), purple (Epic), orange (Legendary), with Mythic above.
  • An Elite tier exists mid-ladder, and “Elite”/“Enhanced” also appear as prefixes on traded gear — whether those are separate drops or upgrades is unconfirmed.
  • Working ladder (community-sourced middle): Common → Rare → Epic → Elite → Legendary → Mythic.

Mastery Oaths: the gate to legendary weapons

Legendary weapons and above will not work until you complete the matching Mastery Oath — an unbound legendary summon simply “does not answer you.” Three schools, started by talking to the trainer while holding a legendary of that school:

SchoolTrainer & routeRequirement
MeleeThe Coliseum — Valor, the war emperorHand over a legendary melee weapon, then deal 25,000 melee damage
CastingBy the Aether Globe in the Pale (after the Disease Era)Late-game gate
SummoningShimmering Sanctum → gem NPC → Sky IslandOnly school reachable early

Changing your Mastery later is possible but costs you — the NPC for that is Kharvos on the Castle's second floor. Choose the school that matches the legendary weapons you actually want.

Where weapons come from

SourceWhat to expect
Boss dropsSignature loot — the night-only Puppeteer drops The Dice (legendary) and Deadlight (summon)
QuestsThe Lost Recipe Book quest (~110 silver total) rewards a rare sword that regenerates health while equipped — badly underrated by its color
ShopThe spawn-town blacksmith sells a solid greatsword (~100 silver) — the strongest early purchase
Chests & loot roomsThe Castle's loot rooms are the tome and weapon jackpot (~1-in-50 rare pulls reported); deep-maze night hordes are the general rare+ farm
Rare spawnsAncient Bones, the nocturnal labyrinth stalker, drops rare+ gear

Armor & accessories

  • Armor/outfits drop mainly from era bosses; named outfits circulate in trading (Sanctifying Luminousness for healers, Unyielding Darkness for tanks, Spider Silk for summoners, Terraria-flavored pieces like the Crusader Cuirass). Slot counts unconfirmed.
  • Accessories have five slots managed from the Information tab; the fifth unlocks from the main story's final boss (community calls it the “Cell of Life”).
  • Named accessories trade actively: Titan Glove, Pygmy Necklace, Lucky Coin, the Fabled Crown (party-wide summoner buff) and the sin/purity items Idol of Hatred and Stone Accord. Individual stats mostly unverified.

Practical rules

  • Lock anything with an active ability or better — the Lost Recipe Book reward proves colors can lie; players are selling great weapons by accident.
  • Plan your Mastery around your endgame weapon, not what you find first — switching costs.
  • Check the Bestiary (Information tab): it lists what each monster drops, and repeated kills on the same type stack bonus damage against it — farm what you want to kill.
  • Item voiding is fixed — the Sep 8 emergency patch fixed the bug that made cast weapons and summon items vanish, and restores are being processed (having a clip speeds it up).

Rarity ladder middle and accessory stats are community-sourced until the community pins them down; nothing guessed. Re-check after the next content update.

FAQ

FAQ

Common questions about this topic.

What are the weapon rarities in The Veil?

Common → Rare → Epic → Elite → Legendary → Mythic (middle of the ladder community-sourced; Legendary and Mythic are confirmed by the game's own achievements).

Why will my legendary weapon not work?

Legendaries require the matching Mastery Oath first — hand the weapon to the school's trainer and complete the requirement (e.g. 25,000 melee damage for Valor's).

How do I get weapons in The Veil?

Boss drops, quests (Lost Recipe Book), the spawn-town blacksmith (~100 silver greatsword), Castle loot rooms, and night hordes / Ancient Bones farming.

Does rarity color matter?

Partially — colors can undersell a weapon (a named quest reward proves it). Judge by abilities first, rarity second.
