The Veil Beginner Guide
What decides your first hours in The Veil — sanity, prestige, race rerolls and class alignment all interact.
Quick answer: redeem RELEASE and VERITYBOMB for race rerolls, roll toward Veilborne (or Gemhead for summoners), follow the main quest arrows to unlock waypoints, run the maze during the day until you can afford sanity potions, and only accept an ultra class once you know which alignment currency you have been farming.
Your first-hour loop
- Redeem your codes first. RELEASE (6 rerolls) and VERITYBOMB (3 rerolls) redeem in the in-game shop. Spend rerolls at the Stylist in spawn town.
- Do not restart over a bad race. Race is never permanent — rerolls come from daily rewards and codes. See all 10 races.
- Follow the main quest arrows. The main quest is what teaches the map, introduces NPCs and unlocks progression systems and waypoints.
- Run the maze during the day. Night stacks sanity drain on top of denser hordes. Keep a sanity potion in the hotbar before leaving the safe zone.
- Pick up side quests before leaving town — they pay silver and line up with the route.
Sanity: why the night kills you
The green bar next to your health drains at night; if it empties you die regardless of HP. Daytime is safe (a launch-day patch fixed an early daylight-drain bug). Recover at campfires and Runner Outposts in the labyrinth, or with sanity potions. Night is the better farming window but plays against a clock. Read the sanity guide.
Prestige & weaving
- Prestige is your real power level: +50 max HP per level (from a 200 HP base, cap 20), earned from boss kills, consuming rare items, and killing players of equal or higher prestige. Dying costs one prestige. Read the prestige guide.
- Weaving is the moment-to-moment damage system: pressing F builds stacks up to 5, and a full stack gives roughly a 25% universal boost to damage and speed.
- Combat is dodge-based, not parry-based — learn each enemy's wind-up and step out.
Race and class commitment
- 10 races, rarity drives how hard they are to land; effects range from +25% fire resistance (Underling) to the legendary Veilborne's weave-cap rewrite. Name/rarity details differ slightly between launch-week wikis — see races and the tier list.
- Super classes mix freely into hybrids; ultra classes are one per character and cannot be combined — accepting an ultra class is the only expensive choice to undo. Read the classes hub.
- Classes cost alignment currency: 30 Sins (chaotic) or 30 Offerings (orderly), the Marauder 15+15. Unlock details.
PvP and outlaws
PvP is off by default and toggled inside spawn town — the only safe zone. Outside town, others can attack you regardless of your setting, and outlaws specifically hunt players carrying prestige. Killing players generates Sins, which gate evil-aligned classes and make some NPCs refuse you; Sins wash off at a shrine.
Silver, enchants and the loop
Silver is capped at 50,000 base storage; hold it for blacksmith work and weapon enchants (100 silver) instead of dribbling it into gear you will replace in an hour. Enchant price was set to 100 by a launch patch. Silver guide · enchanting.
Mistakes new players make
- Treating a bad starting race as restart-worthy — rerolls are free via daily rewards and codes.
- Going deep at night without a sanity potion and losing a prestige level to the bar.
- Committing to an ultra class without knowing which alignment currency you have been farming.
- Selling weapons by color — at least one quest reward proves rarity colors can undersell a weapon. Weapons guide.
- Buying small upgrades constantly instead of one strongest weapon.
FAQ
Common questions about this topic.
What should I do first in The Veil?
Redeem RELEASE and VERITYBOMB in the in-game shop, spend rerolls at the Stylist, follow main quest arrows to unlock waypoints, and run the maze by day until you can afford sanity potions.
Why do I die at full health in The Veil?
Sanity drains at night and kills you when empty regardless of HP. Keep a sanity potion in your hotbar and recover at campfires and Runner Outposts.
Is race permanent in The Veil?
No — the developers confirmed you can reroll anytime at the Stylist; rerolls come from daily rewards and codes.
What is the one decision I should sleep on?
Accepting an ultra class — it is one per character, cannot combine with other classes, and resetting it via Kharvos costs a trade whose price is unconfirmed.
