The Veil Maze & Areas Guide
The labyrinth loop — doors, waypoints, loot rooms and the night stalker.
Quick answer: the maze holds chests, crafting materials, and the densest monster packs — and it is the fastest place to lose a prestige level. Go in during daylight while learning the layout, plan an exit before you commit to a route, and treat every player you meet as unknown until they act.
Day/night doors
Maze doors open at night and close during the day. During daylight you can only get inside via unlocked Pylons and Waypoints — The Glade, Echohold, or the hidden Weeping Garden — which is why unlocking travel points early pays off more than any early gear upgrade. Sanity stacks on top of night pressure.
Recovery & travel
- Campfires — recovery points; note where you pass them.
- Runner Outposts — recovery and travel anchors; plan exits around them.
- Waypoint Obelisk — travel cooldown dropped from 3 minutes to 60 seconds in Patch 3.
- Pylons & Waypoints — the daytime entry system; unlocked through the main quest and progression.
Loot rooms & farm spots
- The Castle's loot rooms are the tome and weapon jackpot — ~1-in-50 rare pulls from its enemies (community-reported).
- Deep-maze night hordes are the general rare+ farm — bring potions (sanity).
- Ancient Bones, the nocturnal labyrinth stalker, drops rare+ gear and items (quests also touch it).
- Named areas: The Glade, Echohold, Weeping Crypt/Garden, Shimmering Sanctum, Sky Island, Crumbling Ring, Maw of Decay and the endgame Pale. Full map on the map page.
Routes & the story line
The main quest is what teaches the map: follow quest arrows, unlock waypoints, and each era pushes deeper — the Disease Era ends at the Festering Wound in the Maw of Decay and opens the road to the Pale. Night-only encounters (the Puppeteer, the hidden Weeping Garden) and weather events (rain-only Angry Nimbus spawns for Sky Sentinel) slot into the same schedule.
Maze safety rules
- Plan an exit before you commit to a route — note campfires and Runner Outposts as you pass.
- Watch the sanity bar rather than only your health; turn back before it gets low, not after.
- Treat every player as unknown — there is no way to tell a traveller from an outlaw until they act.
- Wear gear you can afford to lose deep down — death costs prestige.
