How Do Waypoints Work in The Veil?

Waypoints are the obelisk travel network that connects the spawn town to the labyrinth's named areas. Here is how to unlock them, use them, and read the new numbers.

Quick answer: waypoints are unlocked by reaching an area on foot and activating its obelisk — most are tied to main quest progression. Once active, interact with any obelisk to fast-travel between them. The travel cooldown is 60 seconds (cut from 3 minutes in Patch 3), and the Halloween update made the list alphabetical and let you set your spawn point at any unlocked waypoint.

How to unlock and use a waypoint

  1. Reach the area the normal way — main quest routes, labyrinth doors at night, or a teleport like the Shimmering Sanctum gem trip.
  2. Find its Waypoint Obelisk and interact to activate it. Activation is permanent per character slot.
  3. Open any activated obelisk later to travel there directly. The 60-second cooldown is global, so chain trips thoughtfully.
  4. After the Halloween update, you can also set your spawn at any unlocked waypoint from its menu — useful before boss attempts.

Why unlocking waypoints is the best early investment

  • Maze doors close during the day — waypoints are how you enter without waiting for night. Maze guide.
  • Death sends you back to town. A waypoint network shortens the walk back to wherever your run was lost.
  • Boss attempts go faster when you can reset spawn points nearby — see boss locations.

Evidence boundary: unlock flow, cooldown and the spawn-setting change are documented from current builds and update notes. Which areas have obelisks can grow with content updates — check the in-game list after each patch.

Common questions about this topic.

How do you unlock waypoints in The Veil?

Reach the area on foot and interact with its Waypoint Obelisk. Most are tied to main quest progression; a few, like Sky Island, are reached through teleports first.

What is the waypoint cooldown in The Veil?

60 seconds between fast travels, cut down from 3 minutes in Patch 3.

Can you set your spawn at a waypoint in The Veil?

Yes — since the Halloween update you can set your spawn point at any unlocked waypoint, and the waypoint list is sorted alphabetically.

Why can you not enter the maze during the day?

The maze doors close by day. Daytime entry runs through unlocked pylons and waypoints — that is why travel unlocks pay off early.
